A person who is transported by ambulance to a hospital should generally pay the costs. However, the Government of Quebec can bear the costs for certain people:

  • Persons injured in a road accident or in an accident at work;
  • Persons 65 years of age or older;
  • Persons transported between 2 establishments of the health and social services network;
  • The welfare recipients.

The basic costs of ambulance transport for those who are not entitled to free transportation are $ 125 for the pick-up and then $ 1.75 per km driven. There are no fees to be paid at the time of ambulance transportation. The transport company sends the invoice to the person being transported, or to his guardian if he is a minor. The latter must pay the amount to the carrier or send the invoice to its private insurer.
