INHALED MEDICATION
Q: What is the recommended order of taking inhaled medications and treatments?
A: Although there is still no clear consensus on the order in which inhaled medications should be taken, it is still recommended to do so as follows:
1. Bronchodilator (opening of the bronchi), e.g.: Ventolin®, Bricanyl®
2. Mucolytic (liquefaction of secretions), e.g.: Pulmozyme®, hypertonic saline
3. Respiratory physiotherapy (mobilization of secretions), e.g.: PEP, clapping
4. Other inhaled medications (anti-inflammatory or long-acting bronchodilator), e.g.: Pulmicort®, Oxeze®, Symbicort®
5. Inhaled antibiotics, e.g.: TOBI®, Cayston®, ColyMycin®
