Testimonial: Nights with twins
Living and adjusting to nights with twins.
My guys lost a lot of weight in their first few days of life. So for a good 10 days, we had to wake up every 2 hours to make sure they were drinking a lot. It was demanding. The alarm goes off, you set it up immediately 2 hours later, knowing that the breastfeeding/diaper change/re-breastfeeding routine plus supplement will last for a good hour.
Chéri and I went to bed at 19:00 at night! To sleep for an hour you have to find sleep somewhere.
Every afternoon I took a nap at the same time the guys were napping. The rest of the household chores? Suspended. Breastfeeding, doing my treatments, feeding myself (with excess!) and sleeping took up the 24 hours in a day. Chérie is the one who takes care of reheating meals that were in the freezer and doing basic house maintenance.
The phrase we always hear when we announce that we will have twins: “I hope you are well surrounded, you will need help”. My in-laws had repeated colds during the first month of the guys life. It was out of the question for them to set foot in my house under these conditions. My mother spent 1 to 2 times a week to clean up according to my needs. A friend came for a few days in January, to give darling a few nights of rest and fill our freezer with good prepared meals.
But in the end, we didn't need that much help, even though darling was at work during the day, because we have good babies. Honestly, they are less troubled at 2 than many unique babies. My guys cry very infrequently, and never at the same time. I don't know if it's because I was mentally prepared for an Ironman with 2 babies, or if they simply decided to spare me by choosing me as a mom, with my weakness! But I am living well the first months of my 2 babies' lives.
After a month, the guys ask for their food every three hours/three and a half hours at night. And drinking it goes much faster: no need for additional formula milk. I am now providing milk for 2 babies!
In the evening, the whole family goes to bed around 20:00, we wake up around 23:30, then around 3:30 and then around 6:00. All in all, we manage to sleep a good 9 to 10 hours a night. Well, our sleep is always interrupted, but all the same, we are doing quite well!
