Testimonial: To start a family, what options are left?
Faced with the limitations of fertility treatments and the ethical and personal challenges associated with gamete donation, adoption seems to be a meaningful option for some couples.
I don't want to consider buying eggs or sperm. I would so like to spend this amount of money to meet the needs of a living child, who already needs it, instead of spending it on Maybe allow me to carry a child. These are my values, each couple has their own. Personally, I did not want to invest $7,000 in such a small hope. And as long as I am paying for a child who will not be mine, I prefer to turn to the option of adoption. In any case, while waiting for my IVF #3, I need to keep busy, to have the impression that I am continuing my efforts, that my project is progressing.
It had already been a while since I started to see what was being done in terms of international adoption. On this subject, I advise you to consult the government website https://www.quebec.ca/famille-et-soutien-aux-personnes/grossesse-parentalite/adoption/adoption-internationale/a-propos-adoption-internationale where all the countries open to adoption are presented in real time.
I set up a notebook, where I wrote the results of my research by country. I noted those where we met the criteria, and the steps to be taken for each of these countries. I quickly came up against 2 constraints. Darling age (most countries require you to be at least 30 years old and darling won't have them for another two years) and CF, of course... However, maybe I had chances, since each country requires a medical certificate that is unique to it. Sometimes, in this type of certificate, only a few diseases are specified. Or I was thinking that it was possible to assess my condition stable enough to adopt.
My first steps led me to the organization Enfants d'Orient et d'Occident Adoption et Parrainage du Québec Inc. This organization operates by interest list. That is, for a short period of time, for example, a week, they open their list. All couples who meet the eligibility criteria can apply. Following the closure of the registration period, they proceed to draw X number of couples who will be kept in their interest bank. I submitted our name for adoption in Thailand. A list of interests was opened while I was doing my research. The question: “Are you both in excellent health? ” was asked. Well, that's such a subjective question! My answer: yes! (we'll see later!). And there were no age restrictions. Of the 104 entries received in 5 days, they picked 50 couples ranked in the order in which they were drawn. A dozen children will be placed for adoption over the next two years in one or other of these 50 couples. They keep as many because many do not meet the eligibility criteria after further evaluation. We were the 47E to be caught. Weak hope, but hope all the same. All that's left to do is wait for the next one. (As I write these lines, 8 months later, I still haven't heard anything... Maybe they didn't like my answer, on the 2E form, to the famous question about our health: “Is it possible for you to call us so we can discuss it? ”).
But hey, I'm not the type to put all my eggs in one basket...
