Testimonial: Bleeding, emergency and twin pregnancy
A testimony on a risky twin pregnancy, waiting in the emergency room and the fear of a miscarriage.
A double stroller doesn't fit in my Toyota Yaris, so my boyfriend started shopping for a new car. One evening, when we return from work, we hit the road to see a model more suited to a family.
On the way, I have to go to the bathroom (as every 30 minutes). But during the final phase of the operation, I notice that the toilet is stained with blood... Small panic: where does this blood come from? Oh no: from “from there” I think so. Back in the car, I let my boyfriend know. We decided to turn around and inspect everything in the privacy of our home. Closer inspection confirms that it came from there. At the high-risk pregnancy clinic, I was told to go to the emergency room in case of blood loss. And off we go for an evening of waiting rather than testing a car.
It's a typical Tuesday night at the emergency room, full of small families and diverse wildlife. After an hour of waiting, I dare to ask the girl who has just been called since when she has been there. 14:00 this afternoon (it is now 19:30).
That's when I see the bit of patience, that my boyfriend has been trying to have since we arrived, leaving his face. We're going to walk. He starts looking on Google: blood loss. He's trying to convince me that it doesn't have to be a big deal.
I have CF, and long waiting periods in the hospital, goodness I had them! I can endure! I then let him understand that I will be worried until the next ultrasound if we leave and that if the bleeding starts again, I will really have regretted leaving. I reassure him and tell him to go home, that I will call him to pick me up when it's over.
At 21:30 I was called to the examination room, and at 22:30 a gynecologist came in. You know, THE handsome doctor of the place. That's when you realize that you didn't have time to shower all day and that your bikini line has regrown by 3 weeks. Well yes, despite the concern, a girl thinks about it in front of a doctor of her own style.
Well, he explains the steps to me: we will check with an ultrasound whether we can see 2 hearts beating. But he explains to me that there is a 1% chance of miscarriages at my stage and that if the process is started, at only 14 weeks pregnant, there is nothing we can do except help nature. What an atmosphere from beyond the grave, I can't wait for him to stop talking and to check what is going on. Let me be in denial until we have irrefutable proof, then I will collapse if necessary. But right now, I want to stay in my bubble where everything is fine regardless.
That's it, he decides to put his probe on my stomach. As every time I see them, my heart is full of happiness! One is beating his paws, the other is at rest, but you can clearly see the 2 hearts beating. What a relief, the mother's heart can start again!
The gynecological exam reveals that it was probably just my cervix that bled.
