Air conditioners and tax credits

The purchase and installation of certain energy-efficient air conditioners may entitle you to tax credits or financial assistance, under certain conditions, in order to reduce air conditioning costs and improve thermal comfort.

The heat is coming! We know that it can be difficult for many of us to breathe well during periods of heatwave. Unfortunately, this year we are not able to offer air conditioners or fans. However, we invite you to take note of the tax credit for air conditioned air. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The tax credit

People living with CF can put the purchase of an air conditioner or air conditioning system in the medical expenses section of their tax return. The tax credit for medical expenses (lines 330 or 331) is a tax credit non-refundable that can be used to reduce the amount of taxes you have to pay. This credit does not offer refunds. Thus, if you do not generally pay tax, this tax credit will not allow you to have more money in your pocket.

You can claim the lesser of the following amounts: 50% of the purchase cost or $1,000. You must keep the bill as well as a letter or prescription from your doctor attesting that you need such a system and attach them to your tax report.
