Testimonial: Results of the first tests and first trials
An honest and detailed feedback on the first medical exams, the first artificial inseminations and the emotions experienced during the early stages of the fertility journey.
Gentleman's spermogram, more-than-perfect, a real Starbuck!
On my side, nothing problematic at first glance.
So what is proposed in these cases...?
Search again! I am offered a laparoscopy (an examination done under general anesthesia, which consists of going to explore the uterus, see what it looks like in there!). I had my appendix removed in 2005, under general anesthesia, and I'm telling you that waking up and the first few days, when you have an illness that makes you cough all the time, is quite painful. The pillow becomes your best friend in helping you cough (squeezing a pillow against your abs, when you cough, after surgery, helps to reduce wound pain.) So I refuse to “explore my feminine interior.” Anyway, I think I know what makes me infertile, it's the mucus that lines my uterus and tubes, because of CF (at least that's the explanation I had given myself).
With all this, we are in March 2010, well yes, it's a long time waiting for appointments and tests!
This is where the hormonal dosage is started to prepare me for my first artificial insemination. I start by taking Serophene, a hormone whose mission is to stimulate the ovaries. For those who, like me, have long menstrual cycles, this has the effect of shortening them and making them more optimal. At that time, free access to fertility treatments had not yet been established, so in general, medications related to them were not covered by the RAMQ or by the majority of private insurances. I was then very lucky to be able to be eligible for a clinical study that focused on Serophene, which was provided to me free of charge. (Yes, for me, it has always been important to highlight the positive aspects of this whole process).
I responded well to the medication, I always had an interesting number of follicles growing. I am sorry for those who are at this stage of their design process and who would have liked more details, but I no longer remember the details and the follow-up of the 2 inseminations that I had at the time. The only thing I remember is that since we had to pay for these tests, there was a charge for washing the sperm (removing all the seminal fluid to keep only the sperm), and that we were made to come 2 times, 2 days apart, following my ovulation, following my ovulation to do 2 separate inseminations.
What I can say about these first 2 inseminations is that they did not lead to a positive result. But that even if it was only my first and second try, I believed in it, and that each time, I calculated my expected due date and I had fun determining what the astrological sign of this hope would be, and that at each sign of the arrival of my period, I was disappointed, REALLY disappointed... But we always think that the next time is the right one, so we don't rest and we founded toward our goal.
Let's try insemination #3!
