Testimonial: Laugh so as not to break up in the hospital
A lucid and humorous testimony on the absurdities of the hospital system, and on the precious humanity of the nursing staff.
Recently, I was hospitalized for sinusitis that went down into the lungs. When I got to my room, I noticed that the fridge hadn't been emptied and the closet was full of useless stuff that no one knew what to do with. Being already in a state of discouragement, I can say that these discoveries do not give the impression of comfort as all the ads we see on the walls would lead us to believe!
Then, in radiology, an operator reported to the team that there was still some equipment missing to start their day the next day. When you have friends waiting for their pool to be installed, it's really frustrating to know that the problem concerns logistics, administration... Then upstairs, there was a lack of other equipment and a laxative for a stuck patient. I have come to ask myself, is this normal?
I have always been very grateful to the hospital for treating me. But, to accept situations that are unacceptable because I am necessarily experiencing them, in order to remain positive, it is a lack of integrity to the feelings that rise in me. So, to free myself from these emotions, without fuelling my anger, I wrote various humorous columns on my networks to demonstrate the reality in which we live in the hospital. God... how good it made me!
“Health is at the heart of our priorities at the Hôtel-Cieux du MIUM, which is why we are putting forward programs that promote recovery through natural and environmental techniques. To this end, we regularly hire maintenance people who do not complete their tasks so that there is always a significant trickle of black dust on the furniture. This quality dust thus lodges in the bronchi of our patients, which has the effect of producing mucus, a natural element in the human body that has the ability to clean the lungs. By producing mucus, we are confident that we are helping our patients cough up more and cough enough to get out of the traffic jams that are interfering with their breathing...” A little humor doesn't kill anyone!
Fortunately, on the other side are the health care staff, who give their all to our cause and to the well-being of their patients. Our healthcare team brings the lost humanity into this big administrative system. When you are greeted in the morning by your nurse with two spouts and a hug, it reinforces the feeling that in the hospital, the people around you are really your second family! It also reinforces the feeling when your nurses, doctors, and attendants come into your room feeling emotional and with wet eyes because one of us is not doing well.
Humanity is present and always put forward by our healthcare team. I play “pranks” with the hospital, but we have to make a good distinction between the health staff and the administration... and recognize the continuous efforts of the staff to bring us health, smiles and comfort.
I have no complaints about the care I receive, I thank my beautiful second family for being so devoted, smiling and full of great energies to share. Let us not hesitate to tell them how their presence, their support and their work are key elements in our recovery. It is more than a job, but a vocation that does not receive the recognition that institutions deserve. Thank you for being who you are, I love you my family from 2nd Le Royer!
